2023 Update
Dear St. Louis Columbia District,
Pastors I pray that each of you have embarked on this season of Lent with the fervor and faith that will carry you through these 40 days of challenge.
Please encourage your membership to support the Lenten Caravan held at St. James every Wednesday through Lent @ 7pm nightly as well as the Good Friday Service held at St. Paul on April 7, 2023.
Additionally, please encourage your members to register for Midyear through the registration link at the 5th District website www.ame5.org.
Also, please note the following adjustments to our district's calendar: The dates for the District Conference business session will be Saturday April 15, 2023 beginning at 9am at St. James - St. Louis. The training portion of our District Conference will take place during the Connectional Christian Education Convention from April 13-15 (Registration Information is forth coming.) And our Church School Convention will be held on July 14-15, 2023. (This is a change from the date listed in your Planning Meeting Booklet.)
Let us continue to move through this season with “The Audacity to Hope”.

The Fifth District
Midyear Conference will convene March 13 - 16, 2023, at the Hilton LAX Hotel, Los Angeles, CA. A link for hotel reservations will be posted on the Fifth District webpage by this weekend.
Presiding Elders will gather in a Pre-Meeting Fellowship meal on Monday evening, March 13th.
Although the Meeting will be "Hybrid" in nature (virtual and in-person), we are making every effort to encourage in-person attendance. The District will once again arrange for a buffet lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday midday at no cost to registered in-person attendees. Online registration will remain at $50.00 per person.
In-person attendees must register, but there is no cost.
All participants virtual or in-person MUST register through Eventbrite.
WMS registration is $135.00 - in-person or virtual. Those who register with the WMS at this rate do not have to pay again to participate virtually in the remainder of the Meeting. Please note that ALL WMS Quadrennial Delegates are encouraged to plan to attend in-person. The upcoming Quadrennial Convention WILL NOT HAVE A VIRTUAL COMPONENT. IT WILL BE IN-PERSON ONLY! A "Mock Quadrennial Convention" will be held on Monday evening, March 13th. The WMS Convention and Quadrennial related updates/information will be shared on Tuesday morning. Please determine your food and beverage needs, and pass them on.
The Fifth District Lay Organization will hold its Annual "Evening of Elegance" on Wednesday evening, March 15th. Mr. President, it is not too early to determine your food and beverage needs.
Much of Thursday will be devoted to preparation for the 52nd Session of the General Conference that will convene August 21 - 28, 2024, in Columbus, OH.

Thank you for a great first year as your presiding elder. Your support and encouragement has been valuable. However, the year is not yet complete as we are now in the home stretch towards our 168th Session of the Missouri Annual Conference. The good people of COR, under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. Roger Richardson as well as our committed district and conference volunteers and leaders, have been at work planning to get us to the finish line.

SPECIAL OFFERING
8th, 11th and 20th Episcopal Districts
We have received an appeal to assist our sister districts who stand in need because of the impact of Hurricane Ian. There are issues with drinking water and other devastating events, and we are asked to donate toward these efforts.
I am asking each church to receive a special offering this Sunday, October 9th to go toward this effort. Checks are to be made payable to the Fifth Episcopal District and mailed to 301 Birchwood Crossing Lane
